This is a pot mat made of Carex, which has been used in Japan for a long time. Carex is a material that resists heat and is highly waterproof and breathable. When water falls on it, the water-repellent fibers repel it, and if there is too much moisture, the woven Carex swells up to keep it inside. When it is dry, the Carex will return and allow air to flow naturally.
